Archery Organizations You Should Know

There are many different archery organizations all over the world. All of them are slightly different from one another in what they do, what they provide, and where they are located. If you are interested in an archery organization or what one could do to help you, here is a list of all of the ones that you should know!

World Archery

World Archery is the international federation for the sport of archery. It is the main governing body that is recognized by the International Olympic and Paralympic committees. Founded in 1931, the World Archery organization includes five continental member associations and over 160 national member associations around the world.

The goal of the World Archery organization is to regulate and promote archery all over the world, as well as develop the sport in every region. They also organize many international events, including education and training programs, world championships, and promotional content to spread the sport to a more global audience.

International Bowhunting Organization (I.B.O.)

The International Bowhunting Organization was founded in 1984 by a small group of dedicated bowhunters who wanted to share their love of hunting and conservation with the world and ensure that it was properly passed onto future generations. IBO’s mission is to help promote the ideals of wildlife conservation and expand on the sport of bowhunting.

IBO also works with industry manufacturers, leaders, teams, and organizations to bring awareness and support to bowhunters all over the world. Every year they host the Triple Crown of Bowhunting, a national archery tournament that has three separate events in different states.

International Field Archery Association (I.F.A.A.)

The International Field Archery Association was founded in 1970 by a group of field archers from many different countries, including Sweden, England, Scotland, Wales, Canada, and the US. This group set some basic rules that the field archery tournaments would be run, and the organization has now grown to over 50,000 members in 45 different countries all over the world.

The IFAA is mainly dedicated to new and amateur archers but has since grown to provide competitions for pros now as well. They put on regional and international archery competitions for shooters of all ages and skill levels, and are active in participating with other local and regional organizations to promote the sport of archery.

National Field Archery Association (N.F.A.A.)

The National Field Archery Association was founded in 1939 and is dedicated to the sport of field archery. The organization now celebrates 49 chartered state associations and over 1,000 local, affiliated clubs. The NFAA is also a member of the International Field Archery Association and allied with the USA Archery organization.

The NFAA is based in the United States and offers many programs to help archery clubs and leagues to promote the sport. They organize competitions all across the country and cater to a wide variety of field archery styles such as outdoor field, outdoor target, marked 3D, and indoor shoots.

USA Archery

USA Archery is one of the oldest archery organizations in the world and was formed in 1879. Based in Colorado Springs, Colorado, their goal is to foster and promote the sport of archery all over the country. They aim to provide all of the necessary resources to help the training, participation, and competition of anyone interested in target, field, or 3D archery.

USA Archery hosts more than 200 events every year and even conducts indoor, outdoor, and collegiate National Championship events all over the country. From youth and adult archery programs and clubs to certifying instructors and coaches, USA Archery goes above and beyond to help others with archery in the United States.

Archery Shooters Association (A.S.A.)

The Archery Shooters Association was founded in 1993. It is made up of two categories, the ASA Federation which involves state-level aspects, and the McKenzie ASA Pro/Am Tour which is at the national level. The ASA Federation is in 30 different states and currently has around 7,000 members. The unique thing about ASA archery events is that they are all 3D tournaments.

The 3D tournaments consist of shooting on a course that has 20 3D animal targets. Each animal target has scoring rings that give each shooter their score at the end of each round. Each competition is divided into different categories depending on your age, sex, and skill level so that every shooter is catered to.

National Archery In Schools Program (NASP)

Archery is a sport enjoyed by all ages, so it is important to keep kids and younger children involved as well. As the name implies, the National Archery In Schools Program caters to bringing the sport of archery to kids in school districts all over the country. NASP focuses on grades 4th through 12th, ensuring that the basics of archery and important safety rules are taught.

NASP uses standardized archery equipment that is safe and provides a universal fit for almost every student. For example, the only bow they use is a Genesis compound bow which has no let-off and is adjustable from 10 to 20 pounds in draw weight at any draw length you need it to be. NASP also teaches and certifies instructors for its programs, and through their partnerships with schools, they have introduced the sport of archery to many of the younger generation.

United States Collegiate Archery Association (USCA)

Just as NASP is catered to younger kids, the United States Collegiate Archery Association is dedicated to developing and maintaining resources that support college archery programs. The USCA was created when USA Archery decided that the complexities and rules of college archery would be better served by a separate organization. The goal of USCA is to establish college archery as a bigger part of the campus experience in colleges and universities around the country.

USCA puts on competitions all across the country, including events such as Indoor Nationals, regional events, and the annual National Championship. There are also championship events for 3D archery. You can find all types of archery disciplines in the USCA, including Olympic recurve, bowhunter, compound, and basic bow styles.
